In order to create a world-leading cluster, we carry out basic research to meet the needs of the region´s industries based on the results from the first stage of the Knowledge Cluster Initiative and the R&D potential of this region´s universities. We also adopt a strategic approach for dealing with regional issues such as coordination and support of technology transfer, support of application research and trial manufacturing, and support of human resource development.
The Tokai Region Knowledge Cluster Headquarters is the core organization for this initiative, and the projects are carried out according to the policies established by the regional representatives from universities, industries, and governments during the meetings at the headquarters. To maximize the project benefits, we closely coordinate with the Nagoya Urban Industries Promotion Corporation, Gifu Research and Development Foundation, and other related institutions that are partners in our regional projects.
On the basis of the results and achievements of the first stage of the initiative and issues faced by this region´s industries, we conduct focused research by inviting leading researchers to conduct R&D. We conduct R&D aimed at the development of advanced nanomaterials (focusing on plasma nanotechnology) and high-efficiency devices that will support the region´s industry and work toward the advancement of fundamental technologies and their application as process technologies.
In cooperation with the Tokai Manufacturing Industry Creation Project and other parties, we provide regular updates regarding our R&D results to a large number of leading core enterprises and small- and medium-sized enterprises. Further, in accordance with the policies established by the Regional Conference for Utilization and Promotion of Achievements of the Tokai Region Knowledge Cluster Initiative, we carry out integrated projects for regional businesses in Aichi Prefecture, Nagoya City, and Gifu Prefecture. This will help in commercializing the research results, promoting the use of intellectual property, and promoting the development of young researchers and engineers at the small and medium-sized enterprises.
